Jose Roy Camacho, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on October 13, 2019 at the age of 65, after a battle with cancer. He was born on July 17, 1954 in Bridgeport, Nebraska to Manuel Camacho and Manuela Camacho. He was preceded in death by his father, Manuel Camacho, his nephew Eric Martinez, and his niece Diane Gandara.
Roy, as he was known to family and friends, worked for the State of California Department of Industrial Safety as a Safety Engineer for 31 years until his retirement in 2007. He loved his family and was known as “Papi” by all his grandchildren and many of his nieces and nephews. One of the proudest days of his life was when his great-grandchild was born and he was able to see his name carry on to the 4th generation. He married the love of his life, Stella in 2003 and gained even more family to love.
Roy was a believer in helping people. He grew out and donated his hair to Locks of Love two times for cancer patients. He was always ready to listen, to help out and would go to visit any friend or family member at a moment’s notice.
Roy was deeply involved in the farmworkers rights movement with the United Farmworkers (UFW) in the early 70’s as a Brown Beret. He was an avid bowler, loved his 1965 Pontiac Grand Prix and enjoyed taking it to shows. He was also a proud devoted Raiders fan, traveled to many games, and collected a lot of fan gear. Roy had given his life over to God, and was joyfully baptized in Christ this summer.
He is survived by mother, Manuela Camacho, his wife, Stella, his children Jose Roy Jr. and wife Delia, Thomas P. Camacho, step-children Tina Calantas, Hector Zacarias, and Tiffany Zacarias, siblings Mary Ramirez, Ephraim Camacho, Manuel Camacho, Jr., John Camacho, Rachel Martinez, Ruben Camacho, David Camacho, Ray Camacho, Rosa Linda Valdivia and Maria (Lulu) Camacho, grandchildren, great-grandchild and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park, with interment immediately following the services.
