It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gene Harmon. Gene was born on April 23, 1931 in Oplin, Texas. He moved to Lost Hills, California in 1939.
Gene graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1950. He played football and excelled at baseball. In Gene's automotive shop class he completely rebuilt a 1931 Model A Pickup. After graduation he drove it to Coleman, Texas to visit relatives.
Gene enjoyed a long and very successful career owning and operating Harmon's Grading Company. He felt it an honor to have worked with many of the wonderful builders in Kern County.
After retirement Gene's life was filled with adventure. He loved traveling the entire USA in his motorhome with his wife Jane and other RV enthusiasts.
Gene was also an avid fisherman. He looked forward to his annual fishing trips to Lake Powell with family and friends.
Gene is survived by his loving family, his wife, Jane Harmon, his children, Janice Schmasow (Gary), Randy Harmon (Gail), Michael Waller (Joy), and DeAnna Slayman; ten grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service for Gene will be held Monday, July 8, 2024 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Funeraria Del Angel Hillcrest, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA 93306. Following the graveside service will be a memorial service from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Valley Baptist Church Fruitvale Campus, 4800 Fruitvale Ave, Bakersfield, CA 93308.
