Emil Stewart was born on October 6, 1934, in Story, Arkansas, to Nathan and Allie Stewart. He passed away on December 7, 2024, at the age of 90, peacefully at home in Bakersfield, California, surrounded by his family. Emil was raised in Farmersville, California, and was preceded in death by his wife Dortha, son Dean, Daughter Debbie, great grandson Clayton, parents, two brothers, and one sister.
On October 12, 1952, Emil married Dortha Sparks, and they shared 58 years together until her passing on December 17, 2010. Emil and Dortha had three children: Debbie, Dean, and Kay.
In Bakersfield, Emil and Dortha became known for their successful business, the VAC Shack, which they operated together for years.
After Dortha's death, Emil retired from the business and spent the remainder of his life with his daughter Kay and son-in-law Lennie Standberg, under their loving care.
Emil is survived by his daughter, Kay, and her husband, Lenny Strandberg, as well as 5 grandsons, three granddaughters, 22 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, which most of them are represented here today. His legacy lives on in his family and the love he shared with them.
Services for Emil are as follows;
A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 21, 2024 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at First Pentecostal Church, 1418 W Columbus St, Bakersfield, California 93301.
A graveside service will occur Saturday, December 21, 2024 from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, California 93306.
A reception will occur Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 12:30 PM at First Pentecostal, 1418 W Columbus Ave, Bakersfield, California.
