Edna was born in Wheeler, Arkansas to parents Elsie and William Conduff. She grew up on a small farm near Seneca, Missouri during the lean years of the great depression. At the end of WWII, after corresponding with a young serviceman in the Army Air Corps from Lamont, California, Edna moved to Lamont to reside with her older sister, Ruby. There she began a courtship with Cleo Petty which blossomed into true love, culminating with their marriage in 1946. It was a great marriage that would last for more than 70 years. They would welcome son, Ron, in December 1952 and then a daughter, Brenda, in October 1957, becoming the pride and joy of her life.
Edna was a devout Christian, attending Bethel Temple and Canyon Hills Assembly of God for more than 60 years. Edna served her church in many ways. She was active in Women's Missionary activities, a member of the church choir, and served on the church office staff where she published the church bulletin. A wonderful cook, her legendary cream pies were the highlight of every church social. Edna had a true passion for travel and, after Cleo retired, they would travel extensively throughout the U.S. and Canada; however, her favorite was and remained Yosemite, where they had honeymooned.
Edna's life and legacy were one of devotion to God and her family. She was a wonderful picture of that all too quickly passing "greatest generation" character and perseverance, and she is a great loss to all of us who knew her. Edna is preceded in death by her parents, Elsie and William Conduff. Her sisters, Ruby Patton and Pearl Rogers-Mott, and brother, Raymond Conduff. She is survived by her loving husband, Cleo, her son Ron Petty, (Kerry) and daughter Brenda Baldwin, (Jim). Grandsons Keith Petty, (Michelle), and Aaron Lake. Two brothers, Floyd Conduff and Charles Conduff, two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff from Hoffman Hospice and Rosewood Assisted Living who cared for Edna over the past several months.
A celebration of her home-going is planned for 11:00 am on Friday, February 17th at Canyon Hills Assembly of God Fireside Chapel at 7001 Auburn Street in Bakersfield, California. Reception to follow at the Florence Gardens clubhouse at 6701 Auburn Street.
