Doris Hill

Doris was born in Dundee, Mississippi to James and Essie McHenry, as the tenth child of twelve children. In 1966 the McHenry family moved to California, where Doris attended local schools and received her GED in Bakersfield, California.

At a very young age Doris acknowledged her strong love for Christ, and was even baptized by the late Rev. John T. Edwards at New First Community Baptist Church. Doris was married at the age of 17 to the love of her life, Bacaseva Tim Hill in 1975, where she joined him on the army base. They welcomed 5 children, Lonte, Dora Latasha, Bacaseva Jr., Shaletha, and Junior.

Some years later, she returned to Bakersfield, and was hired in the restaurant business. She worked at Bob's Big Boy and Carrows Restaurants for over 30 years, moving up in the hospitality business. Doris retired from the restaurant business in 2014.

Doris was a quiet, humble person with a positive attitude. She loved spending time with her husband Tim and family members. Doris enjoyed people and she was a very good listener and communicator with guests and family members. She loved cooking for her family and friends. Holidays were very important to her. And that is where she spent most of her time-- in that kitchen, cooking those delicious meals, and pouring all her love into her family. She was always the first to arrive and the last one to leave at each holiday get together. Doris was a wonderful person. She will be missed by family and friends alike.

Awaiting Doris in heaven is her son Junior, her father James McHenry, and brothers Harry Thomas, James McHenry, and Major McHenry.

Doris leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved husband, Tim; sons Lonte and B.J.; daughters Shaletha and Dora Latasha; her beautiful mother Essie McHenry; siblings Lonnie, Jenie, Clarrice, Frank, Ruby, Tiree, Dwayne, Mary, and Betty Ann; many nieces and nephews. Grandma Nana will be missed most of all by her 17 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren!

A memorial service for Doris will be held Friday, December 11, 2020 from 10:00 AM Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA 93306.
