Donald J. Flores, M.D., 85, of Bakersfield, died November 8, 2016 after a sudden illness.
Dr. Flores was born on April 5, 1931, in Phoenix, Arizona, to Alfonso and Caritina Flores.
His law studies at Santa Clara University were interrupted by a call to serve in the United States Army during the Korean War. He returned to his studies in San Jose, California, graduating from San Jose State University and completing medical school at the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara. Dr. Flores enjoyed a private practice in OB/GYN for many years in Delano, California. He loved running into former patients and the now-grown babies he had delivered. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather who loved to travel, loved simple things like flowers and figs, and loved the United States of America.
He is survived by his wife, Amanda G. Flores; daughter Catherine Flores Cavanaugh, son Donald "Charlie" Flores, their spouses Crescent and Shannon, and his grandchildren Marco Sepulveda and wife Allyssa, Adriann Flores, and Samantha Flores.
