Dan was born in Long Beach, California to Johnnie and Sidney Gray. He later moved to Bakersfield with his family and attended local schools and was a graduate of East High. Pop was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid chef that could make any meal taste fantastic. He would never follow a recipe but chose to make it his way each and every time. He was an outdoorsman who could out fish most. His love of Bishop, Mammoth and Lake Tahoe were special areas that he would spend time with his family teaching us how to fish while enjoying God's scenery. There were many trips to Colorado and other places to visit family. This wouldn't be complete without mentioning his love of fast pitch softball and the many friends (and a few enemies) he made throughout the years,
Pop found Jesus in a way that he hadn't experienced in the past when he married the love of his life Linda. But even Jesus couldn't keep him from yelling at his fantasy football teams throughout the years. He was a great man that will be sorely missed by his friends and family.
Daniel is survived by his loving wife of 32 years Linda, his son Scott and wife Kelly and his grandchildren Shaffer, Julia, Kelcee and Zane. Sister in law and brother in law, Doug and Debra Ostby. Nieces Sarah Ostby, Lisa Wallace and husband Trevor.
After a four year battle with Lewy Body Dementia his family is heartbroken to see him go but we do know that he is running around in Heaven with Jesus. Until we meet again pop...
Thank you to Hoffman Hospice and Dignity Health facilities for their fantastic care. Thank you to the many people that cared for him and loved on him as he was one of their own. Our family would like to offer a special thank you to Mildred Velez for her friendship and servant's heart in the way that she cared for him and blended with our family. We also want to say thank you to Anna and Bunny who came faithfully once a month on their day off to do his hair and nails. As there are too many to thank by name we didn't want to miss pops volunteer visitor Brenda who came twice a week and gave selflessly of her time to comfort him. Finally to the great people at Heritage Christian School for their support, prayers, generosity, love and kindness over these past four years.
Service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Chapel, Friday, June 16th, at 2pm
