She was born in Aitkin; Minnesota the 11th of eleven children and after a year of college she entered nursing school at the Los Angeles County General Hospital in Los Angeles. She met and married Donald C. Loos, a medical student, and had 3 sons before serving six years in Assam, India as a medical missionary with her husband. During that time they were blessed by three daughters.
In 1966 the family moved to Bakersfield, California where her husband finished surgical residency at KGH. She served in the Kern County Medical Auxiliary, taught Sunday School, was a member of the PTA but most importantly nurtured the children. She was an active member for 47 years of first the Shalimar Baptist Church and then Parkside Church.
She loved people and was happy to serve in any way possible and always had a positive word for everyone. The entire family of 19 members celebrated a fun 50th wedding anniversary in Hawaii in 2004.
She is survived by her husband and five children: Eric and wife Judy, Randall and wife Penny, Jan, Carole, Melisa and husband Jim; as well as 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and 9 brothers and sisters.
The family would like to thank Dr. Susan Helper and Dr. Robert Laughlin for their excellent care as well as Hoffman Hospice for their kind help and support. Special thanks goes to Lulu for her loving care, companionship, and encouragement over the past 2 ½ years.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Parkside Church after a family graveside service. In lieu of flowers donations in Colleen’s name may be made to Spectrum Ministries, Inc., P.O. Box 17447, San Diego, CA 92177-7447.
