William Reid Faust

William (Bill) Reid Faust of Austin died Thursday, May 18th after a courageous fight with cancer. He was born December 17, 1937 in San Antonio, Texas to Billy and Marie Faust. Bill graduated from Brackenridge High School in San Antonio and attended the University of Texas at Austin where he recieved an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering and a Bachelors and Masters in Business Administration. He began his career as an engineer with the Texas Department of Transportation. After business school, he moved his family to St. Louis where he joined Monsanto Corporation and led the Astroturf division, installing artificial grass in sports stadiums throughout the country. Bill later returned to Austin and was a civil engineer and businessman in the area for over 30 years. He loved the Austin business climate and his professional interests included engineering consulting, real estate development, and retail establishments including the Austin Cycle Center. Bill believed in giving back to the community and was passionate about his civic responsibilities. He volunteered and served as President of the Men's Garden Club of Austin, the Austin Exchange Club, and the Annual Austin Kite Festival. He was honored to be a member of Austin Masonic Lodge No. 12, a 32 Degree KCCH Scottish Rite Mason, and a member of Ben Hur Shrine. Bill was also active in Covenent Presbyterian Church. His personal interests included traveling, bird watching and gardening. He is survived by his wife Jane of 44 years; daughter Monica Huber and husband, Ron of Dallas; son Boyd Faust and wife, Linda of Palo Alto, California; and six grandchildren Carter, Hallie, Sarah, Will, Megan and Mandy. Bill is also survived by his sister Nancy Symons from Cupertino, California. A memorial service celebrating Bill's life will be held Monday May 22, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. in Austin in the main sanctuary of Covenent Presbyterian Church located at 3003 Northland Drive (corner of MoPac at 2222), with a reception immediately following.
