Virginia lived in the Austin area all of her life. She married Curtis L. Hennig on June 21, 1945 in Manor, Texas. Together, they have been active members of the Church of Christ for over 60 years and included several congregations in the area. Their most recent membership is with the Central Church of Christ in Pflugerville.
Virginia worked for the Industrial Accident Board for the State of Texas for 3 years before moving to the University of Texas. She worked in the administration of the Maintenance Department for 16 years prior to her retirement.
Virginia loved playing the Mandolin, shopping and sewing. She made dolls and clothes for them for several years. Through the years, she was a very active person and was well known as a collector of many things. Currently, she has a large collection of Teddy Bears.
She was preceded in death by her son, Gary Hennig, in 2011.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 68 years, Curtis L. Hennig of Austin; daughter-in-law, Beverly Hennig of Killeen; 8 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening, on Monday, the 4th of March 2013, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas.
A funeral service will be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Tuesday, the 5th of March, in the Colonial Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas. Interment will follow in Elgin City Cemetery, Elgin, Texas.
