Tracy was born on April 18, 1960 in Galveston, TX to Edison and LaVerne Thayer. She attended the University of Texas at Austin where she graduated in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
She was the wife of John Mangione. They shared 31 years together. The couple welcomed two children into their home, and Tracy set about teaching them how to be fearless, free spirits. Her children remember her as a loving mother who encouraged them to accept everyone and be kind.
As an accomplished nurse she touched the lives of many patients during her career, a career which spanned a wide variety of positions, including Bedside Nurse, Clinical Nurse, Recovery Room Nurse, Long Term Acute Care Nurse, and Hospice Nurse. She was very conscientious in serving her patients with dignity, respect and true compassion.
Tracy also loved caring for others through her culinary endeavors. She often had family and friends over for large dinner parties and holidays. She enjoyed dancing and singing in the kitchen, playing tennis, watching soap operas and cooking shows, and vacationing with her family. She was an adventurous individual who loved the outdoors and will be remembered for her laugh and deep love for her pet pigs, Olive and Pepper.
She is survived by her father, Edison Thayer; husband, John Mangione; children, Kyle and Rocco; sisters Marilyn Basham and Nancy Thayer, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother, LaVerne Thayer; brothers Jimmy and Ricky Thayer; and niece Hayley Polson.
A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, March 7, 2021 at 1:00pm in the comfort of her backyard in Austin, Texas, with a reception to follow, where we will celebrate Tracy’s life.
