She graduated from Westchester High School and The University of Texas in Austin. She later earned her Master of Science Degree in Psychology with an emphasis on General Psychology.
Susan’s professional career as an educator gave her a great sense of pride and purpose. Her mission was to inspire her students, motivate them, and enrich their lives. She made a great impact on so many lives during her time on this Earth, not just in the classroom. Her approach to teaching was the same as her approach to life – bringing out creativity and challenging the status quo in a positive way.
Susan was very creative. She enjoyed writing poetry and short stories, painting, drawing, coloring, and mixed media projects. She also liked to read, listen to her albums on her record player, and take long drives. She liked to open the doors and windows to let in the natural light and air.
Susan loved to travel, her go to was Sante Fe, NM. She loved going to the galleries, Ten Thousand Waves Spa, driving through the mountains and going to all the wonderful restaurants. She also enjoyed trips to Washington, Maine, Hawaii, Big Sur, Alaska, and Europe, to name a few.
Susan is preceded in death by her father and mother, Cecil Bishop, Jr., and Shirley Bishop. She is survived by her sister, Alison Davis, niece, Courtney Davis, and nephew, Conner Davis. Susan’s Words:
I was born in February, 1957 and took my last breath the morning of May 8, 2024. My life was full of adventure and I can definitively say, I did it my way. Creative pursuits, travel, whether by car, boat, train, or plane, scooter riding with my canines, and gatherings with friends and family were my favorite things to do.
As for my profession, I was an educator for thirty years, accomplishing what I set out to do when I graduated from the University of Texas. I wanted to inspire and motivate high school students to stay in school and tap into their curiosity for the real world and develop a plan for taking their place in it. I accomplished my mission and had fun doing it. For that, I am proud that I was able to contribute something positive to the world.
Most importantly of all, I loved my family and I loved my friends. My hope is that those that I spent time with will remember me with a smile and get up and go somewhere amazing, taking me with you in spirit. So, for some imagery, I bow to you with love and the utmost respect, with hands over heart as I finish writing these last words, Namaste.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Susan at 10:00 am on June 1, 2024, at UMLAUF Sculpture Gardens
