Steven Rexford Tolliver, age 57, of Austin, passed away Monday, August 5, 2013. He was born April 2, 1956 to Mary (Nash) and Rexford O’Neal Tolliver in Salina, Kansas. In 1989, Steve was blessed with his son, Nicholas, whom he raised with the assistance of his own mother and good friend Carmen Vasquez, who became "Nick's Mom." Steve credited Nick with bringing him closer to his own father.
Steve appreciated a broad range of music and loved the Austin music scene. Steve also enjoyed genre fiction, poetry, comics, science fiction and fantasy art, and movies of all types.
Steve loved talking to people and his genuine interest in the people he talked to and their lives always came through. He had recently returned to his Christian roots and was an active member of Berkeley United Methodist Church, where he joyously served as a greeter.
Steve touched many lives and will be sorely missed by those who knew him and by those he loved, especially Nick.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lt. Col. Rexford O. Tolliver; his grandparents, aunts and uncles; and cat, Thriller.
He is survived by his son, Nicholas Tolliver; his mother, Mary E. Tolliver; and his siblings and their spouses, Trish and Doug DeLaney of Virginia Beach, VA, Nancy and Rick Alexander of Arlington, WA, and Susie and Warren Ritchie of Dripping Springs, Ken and Melissa Tolliver of Burnet, Dan and Wendy Tolliver of Cedar Park, and David Tolliver of Austin, his nieces and nephews and their children, and many friends.
