Shawn P. Williams

Shawn grew up and spent most of his life in Austin, the city he loved. He played baseball throughout much of his childhood eventually playing for the Blinn College baseball team before an injury kept him from continuing to play competitively. He was always an avid UT fan and at that point, transferred to UT Austin where he obtained his undergraduate degree in Biology. He then received his Masters in Immunology and Medical Degree from UTMB at Galveston where he was a member of the Phi Beta Pi Fraternity. From there, he returned to Austin and completed his residency in Internal Medicine. After finishing his medical studies, Dr. Shawn Williams practiced medicine in Austin and then finally at Cedar Hills Family Practice with his brother.

Shawn loved the outdoors and was a great sports fan. In fact, he was a season ticket holder for the UT Longhorns Football team for many years and introduced many of his friends to the tailgating experience. He loved the Longhorns and would always find a way to hear the games even if he was unable to attend. A natural athlete, he loved sports in general and was a member of local soccer, rugby and flag football teams. He would spend many of his days running along the trails of Town Lake and he completed several marathons. Wanting to pass down his knowledge, Shawn had been a little league coach recently and enjoyed teaching his nephews baseball.

Shawn also loved to travel. His travels took him scuba diving and exploring in the Caribbean and Central America, hiking in many national parks and backpacking across Europe. He even lived for several months in Italy. When he graduated from medical school, he celebrated by participating in the Running of the bulls in Pamplona, Spain. Even though he loved to travel, Austin was always Shawn's home and many of his favorite times were with his friends and family just being at different places in and around Austin.

Shawn was an avid reader and loved talking about a great book he had just finished. When a friend was sick and/or going through a tough time in their life, they could always expect a visit from Shawn with a stack of books and words of encouragement.

Shawn was a great supporter of the Austin Boxer Rescue and had rescued several Boxers himself. At the time of his death, he had two boxers, Bailey and Rex, which he loved like they were his children.

Shawn is survived by his parents, Jim and Linda Williams; his brother, Dr. James E. Williams and wife Ileana; his sister, Lisa Morgan and her husband Sid; 5 nieces and 3 nephews and numerous friends and colleagues. He truly enjoyed life and helping people and will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to have known him.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 8th at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 9, 2011 in the Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel.
