Roy Edward Wray passed away July 3, 2011, at The Pointe at Cedar Park. He was born August 10, 1916 in Liberty Hill, Texas. Roy Edward was born and raised a Texan and was proud of it. He lived 94 blessed years.
Roy Edward is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Bertha Ruth Wuertele Wray. They had just celebrated their 72nd anniversary on June 17, 2011. Their home was in Austin for 71 of those years until recently when they moved to Cedar Park to be near their daughter.
Roy Edward is also survived by two daughters, Carole Schieffer and husband, Larry, of Cedar Park and Becky Morris and husband, Jerry, of Harrisonburg, Virginia. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He was very much loved by all and will be greatly missed.
In WWII, Roy Edward proudly served in the United States Navy. His “sailor” picture was our favorite one. His great-grandson, Derek Read will follow in his footsteps, serving in the U.S. Navy.
Roy Edward provided for his family by being a skilled carpenter and was a member of the Carpenter’s Union of Austin. His building accomplishments included being superintendent on the construction of The Bass Concert Hall in Austin. At home and on property he owned, Roy was a creative builder, building many unique structures.
Roy Edward was a member of St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Austin and was Confirmed and Baptized as a young father. He recently spoke boldly of his belief and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ and looked forward to going to Heaven.
In the past 9 months, Roy Edward brought much humor and laughter to the wonderful Caregivers at The Pointe at Cedar Park and Odyssey Hospice. He was liked and loved by all. Much gratitude and many thanks go to these Caregivers for the tender and loving care they gave him. His family will forever be grateful.
Visitation services will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home in Austin, Texas. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am, Wednesday, July 6, 2011.
