Robert Lee Nichols passed away September 20, 2008. He was born September 23, 1927, in San Antonio, Texas, to Clement and Rose Nichols. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother Nilla Nichols, brothers Frank Nichols and Dewey Little, wife Allison Nichols, son Lee Nichols and wife Deborah, and grandson Bryant Nichols. He is survived by his grandson Dalton Nichols. Bob was reared in Carrizo Springs, Texas. Following three years in the US Army Air Force, he earned a degree in education from Texas A&I in Kingsville. In 1952 he accepted a teaching position in Corpus Christi where he met and married Allison, his wife of 56 years. Bob was a devoted family man and a special friend to many. A dedicated teacher, Bob's career in the field of education included elementary classrooms, Texas Education Agency, and Special Education administration. After retiring to Austin he successfully waged a campaign with the Texas House and Senate to pass legislation to increase teacher retiree benefits. A memorial service celebrating Bob's life will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 North Lamar in Austin, Saturday, October 4, 11:00 A.M.
