Robert Lee Johnson

Robert Lee (Bob) Johnson was born May 12, 1935 in Carrington, North Dakota. He was the son of Carl William and Laura Hazel Hanson Johnson. Bob graduated from Moorhead High School in 1953. He then served his country in the United States Army. Upon returning, Bob married Barbara Edwards on March 9, 1957 at Grace Methodist Church in Moorhead, MN. He worked for the Fargo Forum newspaper as a journeyman printer while attending North Dakota State University graduating with a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1962. He received a Masters Degree in Science with an emphasis in Industrial Engineering from Rutgers University in 1972. His career as an engineer with IBM spanned over 33 years in Rochester, MN, Vestal, NY, Princeton, NJ and Austin, TX where he has lived for 50 years. Bob was awarded a patent for his work on the MagCard Card Cutting Apparatus and an Outstanding Contribution Award for his work on the UV Printing for 6.5 Magnetic Disk. He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

Following retirement, Bob and Barbara spent summers at their lake Trowbridge lake home in Minnesota that he dearly loved. Bob enjoyed remodeling homes, traveling, wood carving, playing games and watching sporting events. He was a devoted member of Hope Presbyterian Church for over 30 years where he served as an elder and a deacon.

Bob went home to be with his Lord and Savior on December 29, 2020 after a short bout with Covid-19.

Bob is survived by his wife, Barbara, of 63 years. He is also survived by his children, David (Jeni) Johnson of Round Rock, Debra (John) Romoser, of Austin, TX, and Daniel (Debbie) Johnson of Carrollton, TX, his beloved grandchildren Rachel Johnson, Audrey Johnson, Sarah McClelland, Brian Romoser, Yana Romoser, Dalton Johnson, Leah Johnson and Logan Johnson. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren and his sister Marlys (Duane) Raffenbeul of Buffalo, MN.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Donald Johnson.

A private family burial service is planned for Saturday, January 9, 2021 with a memorial service at a later date.

The family requests that any memorial gifts be made to the Music Ministry of Hope Presbyterian Church, Austin, TX.
