Robert “Jay” Jenkins, age 69, of Georgetown, Texas, transitioned Sunday, September 4, 2016. Jay was born on May 17, 1947 in Bogalusa, Louisiana to Rosie and Robert Jenkins. He was married to the love of his life, Sharrion, for thirty one years.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army for thirty years before retiring in May 1994. While in the military, Jay received many decorations, medals, citations and campaign ribbons, listed are just a few, the Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with the Bronze Star, Overseas Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal 3rd OLC, Saudi Kuwait Liberation Medal, Southwest Asia Cease Fire Campaign Medal, Defense of Saudi Arabia Campaign Medal, Defense and Liberation of Kuwait Campaign Medal, Rifle M-16 Marksman Badge, and the Army Achievement Medal 3rd OLC.
After retiring from the military Jay worked for the State of Texas, State Office of Administrative Hearings and retired from the State of Texas in 2010.
Jay’s passion was cooking for family and friends and he also loved to dance.
Jay is survived by his wife, Sharrion Jenkins; son, J. Corbin Kenneth; sisters, Kathy Magee and Lynn Arnold (Justin); brother, Donald Jenkins (Evelyn); sisters-in-law, Gwen Williams (Perry) and Karen Percy (Harold); brother-in-law, Anthony Huff (Desiree); and numerous relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother and father.
Viewing will be held at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N. Lamar Blvd, Austin, Texas on Thursday, September 8, 2016 from 3 P.M. until 7 P.M. The family will greet friends at a celebration of Jay’s life, at the Holiday Inn Midtown, 6000 Middle Fiskville Road, Austin, Texas at 6 P.M. on Friday, September 9, 2016. Jay will be buried at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas.
