Robert Bond Bain

Robert Bond Bain passed away on September 17, at his residence in The Woodlands, Texas at the age of 82. Born in Waxahachie on August 29, 1923, he graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1940 and attended Baylor University. After four years of military service in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War II, he obtained a degree in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin. He worked for the Fort Worth Star Telegram for more than twenty-five years as a photographer and reporter, including serving as the chief of its capital bureau in Austin for seven years. In 1977, he was appointed press secretary to Governor Dolph Briscoe and subsequently served as a special assistant in the Comptroller’s Office under Bob Bullock until his retirement. He remained an active amateur radio operator for over fifty-years. Bob was a parishioner of St. Andrews Anglican Church, Round Rock. He was preceded in death by his wife of forty-one years, Virginia Estill Bain, parents Robert Lee and Aileen Bond Bain, and sister Corinne Bain Newman. He is survived by his stepson and daughter-in-law Monty L. and Sheryl A. Harrell of The Woodlands and nephew Raymond Jan Motley of Waxahachie. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Tuesday, September 20 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin, Texas. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Wednesday, September 21 at Weed-Corley-Fish with Fr. Arlen Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Austin Memorial Park.
