Our beloved Richard Reed Hawn sadly passed away on June 29th at the age of 72. Always the loving and supportive father, Reed will be missed terribly. He is survived by his many friends, Margaret Hawn, son Richard Reed Hawn Jr. and his wife Kristina Koger, daughter Katie Khan and her husband Sameer Khan, and daughter Kristen Hawn and her husband Ted Derheimer.
An avid coin collector, Arabian horse enthusiast and lifelong Texas Democrat, Reed had an intense passion for all that he loved in his life. He spent years with his friends and family traveling around the country showing Arabian horses. He shared this enthusiasm with his children, his friends, and his wife Margaret. Reed demonstrated an unwavering kindness to all who knew him. Always thinking of others, he was truly an example of what it means to love and be loved in return.
A Texan to the core, Reed loved the University of Texas Longhorns, the beautiful Texas hill country, and his long family heritage from Refugio to Corpus Christi, and eventually to Austin, where he and Margaret raised their three children.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate Reed’s life at 2 pm on July 6th at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Homes at 5416 Parkcrest Drive in Austin. The family does not request flowers or gifts; however, memorial contributions can be made in Reed’s name to Yellowstone National Park here.
