Richard Charles Gravett, 89 passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2023, in Austin Texas at the age of 89, at the Christopher House. He is survived by his wife Sue Dube Gravett, his two surviving children, son Sean Calloway Gravett and wife Jennifer, daughter Laurie Rose, Grandchildren: Jackson Gravett, Callaway Gravett, Hope Thomas, Charlie Rose and wife Beth, and Matthew Davies, Brothers: Daniel Carlos Gravett and wife Wanda, Dale Patrick Gravett and wife Holly, Sister: Deborah Ann Burke and husband Michael.
Richard was born on November 20, 1933, in Corpus Christi, Texas to parents Charles and Christine Gravett. Richard (Dickie Gravett) grew up in Corpus Christi graduating from W.B. Ray High School where he was named the first player in the high school’s history to play in the annual North-South All-star Game. He was inducted into the Texas Torch Foundation Hall of Fame in 1998. He attended Southern Methodist University on a football scholarship and graduated from Texas A&M University – Kingsville with a B.S. in Physics and Electrical Engineering.
Richard was preceded in death by his father, Charles Ashley Gravett, mother Christine Callaway Gravett, daughter, Vickie Christine Davies, and granddaughter Michelle Thomas.
Richard met the love of his life, Sue Ann Dube (Susie), and was married on April 15, 1972, (Income Tax Day). Their wedding text was Matthew 28, 20b: “Lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world”.
“On those who now before Thee kneel, O Lord, Thy Blessing pour
That each may wake the other’s zeal to love Thee more and more,
Oh, grant them here in peace to live, In purity and love,
And, this world leaving, to receive A crown of life above.”
His Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 15, W. Third St., Brenham, Texas 77833.
