Pauline Terry was born in rural Texas August 1, 1911. She was the third of twelve children. She was raised and educated in Godley, Texas. She married Paul “Doc” Houghton in 1929 in Godley. Their daughter, Paula Ann Houghton was born in July of 1934.
The family moved to Austin, Texas in 1938 so Paula Ann could attend the Texas School for the Deaf. After coming to Austin their son, Terry Paul Houghton was born in May of 1939. She raised her children proudly at 1213 Kinney Avenue.
Polly was a member of the Congress Avenue Baptist Church from when she moved to Austin. She had a strong belief and faith in God. She worked as a waitress at the original Nighthawk Restaurant on Riverside Drive. Later she was a receptionist at the Capitol Collection Bureau. In her spare time she always loved playing games (Yahtzee, Gin, Kismet, etc.) and BINGO with anyone who wanted to get beat.
She out lived her husband, Paul Ball Houghton, her daughter, Paula Ann Houghton and her son, Terry Paul Houghton.
Everyone in her family and their friends knew her as “MiMi”. MiMi lived to love her entire family, her granddaughters, Beth Ann Cole and Debbie Rumsey, their husbands, respectively, Rick Cole, and Jeddy Rumsey but mostly her seven great-grandchildren, Ethan Cole, Andrew Cole, Samuel Cole, Austin Vanalli, Martin Vanalli, Megan Rumsey, and Benjamin Rumsey.
The family wishes to express special thanks to Jordan and Janice at Seton Hospital for their comforting care during her last hours.
A celebration of MiMi’s life will be on Saturday, February 5th, at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress Avenue, beginning with a visitation at 1:00 pm and Funeral Service at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
Following the Graveside the family will gather at Beth Ann Cole’s home.
