Oscar Rojas Ortiz passed peacefully in Austin and returned home Friday morning, May 18th, 2012. He was born on August 30th, 1929 to Sara and Ramon Rojas of San Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico. He served in the Korean War, ran a successful business, and retired from the Harris County Hospital System but continued to passionately pursue his hobbies ranging from restoring cars to dancing and playing pool. Devoted son, protective brother, loyal husband, loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and faithful friend. Patriarch and protector, he overcame many adversities in his life with his focus firmly on raising a family. You never let your age define you, but your presence in our lives has surely defined us.
Predeceased by Linda Barnhart Ortiz of 40 years marriage, and is survived by 7 children, 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and countless friends who will miss his laugh, cherish his memory, and honor his legacy.
Honoring Oscar and serving as Pallbearers will be Zeke Johnson, Joshua Ortiz, Clint Johnson, Kevin Griffin, Oscar Ortiz, Jr., Somar Ramos, and Casey Teer.
All of Oscar's beloved friends and family are welcome to join us in a celebration of his spirit and life. His viewing is Sunday, May 20th from 6-8 pm, and his memorial service will be held Monday, May 21st at 2 pm at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home located at 2620 S. Congress Ave, Austin, TX, 78704. Graveside Service will be held 1 pm Tuesday, May 22nd at Forest Park-Lawndale Cemetery, Houston, TX.
