Nancy Black Loflin, born on May 27, 1931, was called home to her Heavenly Father on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at the age of 93. While we mourn her passing, we take comfort in the knowledge that she has been reunited with her beloved husband, Harry, along with friends and family who went before her.
She is survived by her loved ones, son Brooks and his wife, Lisa, of Austin, and son Brad of San Antonio. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Cory, Heather, Sarah, Hannah and Jonathan, as well as her two great-grandchildren, Abigail and Benjamin.
Nancy was born in Jackson, Mississippi, to Alvin and Willie Black. She attended Central High School, where she met Harry, her lifelong companion. Nancy later attended Belhaven College, earning an associate degree, and began working while Harry served in the Marines.
She worked in the corporate world during her younger years and continued to dedicate her time through work and volunteer efforts, including at cancer treatment centers. Over the years, she and her family lived in several major cities, including San Diego, CA; Houston, TX; Somerset, NJ; Baton Rouge, LA: Orangeburg and Columbia, SC, before ultimately retiring in Austin, Texas.
Nancy had a deep love for Texas and a passion for travel. The great national parks were among her favorite destinations, though she also enjoyed exploring many other fascinating places. Annual trips to Colorado became a cherished tradition for many years, often joined by family. In particular, she loved Estes Park and the Rocky Mountain National Park with over 50 visits through the years, starting when their sons were very young. Branson, Missouri, also held a special place in her heart and she and Harry visited there yearly as well, enjoying the music and shows. Per their wishes RMNP will be part of their final resting place, along with being together in Remembrance Gardens at Riverbend Baptist Church.
She will be remembered for her unwavering faith and had a lifelong presence in the church and singing in the choir. She and Harry made many, many friends at each of the churches they belonged to. In retirement in Austin, they were early members of Austin Baptist Church and grew with it, forming lasting relationships with many, especially as members of the Lamplighters. She was a beautiful person both inside and out, with a kind and generous spirit and a deep love for family and friends. Her beautiful blue eyes would always light up when with her loved ones.
Nancy strived to bring a positive light to people every day. She inspired happiness and laughter and was affectionately nicknamed Sunshine and Sparkle by her friends. She touched the lives of many with her warmth and grace, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength and devotion. Her memory will forever live in the hearts of those who loved her.
A memorial service will be planned for early in the new year.
