Michael Thomas Smith

Mike worked for ThyssenKrupp Elevator for 34 years as an Elevator Service Technician, retiring on February 28, 2013. He was a member in good standing of the International Union of Elevator Constructors, Local 133, Austin (and formerly of Local 140 in Phoenix, Arizona) and was voted by his peers to receive a Gold Union Card upon retirement. Mike also taught night classes for the National Elevator Industry Education Plan for five years.

Mike was predeceased by his mother, Marilyn; father, Tom; and grandniece, Lillian Martin.

Mike is survived by his wife of 31years, Mariella (Sammie); daughter, Sheila Moreno; sisters, Kathleen Minarsich and Tracey King (John); brother, Patrick (Laura); nieces, Colleen Martin (Chris) and Ashley Zink (Josh); nephews, Justin Montgomery and Travis Sparrow; grandson, Eric Needham; granddaughters, Kayleigh and Brenna Moreno; grandnieces, Zoey and Zayla Zink; and grandnephew, Connor Martin.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 3, 2014 at West Resthaven Funeral Home located at 6450 W. Northern Avenue, Glendale, Arizona, 85301, telephone number (623) 939-8394. Graveside services will follow at 11:00 a.m.at Resthaven Park Cemetery.
