Mickey was born on July 26, 1936 to Ruby Weatherby Moore and Charles Austin Moore in Brownwood, Texas and grew up in Sinton, Texas. After Mickey graduated from Sinton High School in 1954, he served two years in the U.S. Army in Germany. Upon returning, he pursued a Bachelor’s degree at The University of Texas at Austin, and was a die hard Longhorn fan his entire life.
After graduation, Mickey first held jobs with Continental Oil Company and with the Lumberman’s Association of Texas. In October of 1966, he went to work for the Texas Retailers Association, where he spent the next 35 years serving as President until his retirement. Under his guidance, the Texas Retailers Association was successful in their efforts to implement the state's sales tax, to defend the Sunday closing laws until 1985, and to help lead the business efforts to reform the Texas Unemployment compensation and worker’s compensation systems.
During his career and retirement, Mickey was President of Austin Jaycees, President of the Texas Society of Association Executives, served on Children’s Advocacy Center board, member of Downtown YMCA, and Drive A Senior. Mickey and Janey were early members of Northwest Hills United Methodist Church and joined Tarrytown United Methodist Church in 2015. He enjoyed spending time on the golf course at Austin Country Club, playing rounds with his wife as well as lifelong friends, but his true pride and joy was spending time with his family and playing with his grandchildren.
On January 28, 1961, Mickey married his sweetheart and best friend Janey Lee Muller in Tomball, Texas. They went on to have two wonderful children, Mike and Becky. After raising their kids and upon Mickey’s retirement, they enjoyed traveling to various places around the world and taking in all the sights they could.
Mickey was preceded in death by his parents Ruby and Charles Moore, and his brother Charles E. Moore. He is survived by his wife Janey Moore, son Mike Moore (wife Laura Moore), daughter Becky Moore Clarkson (partner Mark Roach), and his grandchildren Allie, Ashley, and Audrey Moore and Holden and Harper Clarkson. He is also survived by his sister Marilyn Moore Riddle in Southwick, MA.
