Mary Lou Allison

Our beloved mother, Mary Lou Allison, passed away on July 10, 2011 at the age of 86. Mary Lou was born in Lubbock, Texas on July 22, 1924 and moved to Austin in 1936. She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, James B. "Jack" Allison, father Alfred Meakin Scott, mother Lena Laurine Scott, brother Alfred M. Scott, Jr. and sister Georgia Ann Rogers.

She graduated from Austin High School and continued her education at The University of Texas at Austin where she pledged Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, graduating in 1945 Magna Cum Laude and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

After graduation, Mary Lou became an English teacher with the Austin public schools where she taught at University Jr. High, Allan Jr. High and Johnston High School over the following two and a half decades. She married her high school sweetheart Jack Allison in 1945, after he completed his service in WWII.

Mary Lou loved to travel in her earlier years and was able to fulfill her dreams of "seeing the Queen" in London and visiting major portions of the U.S.A. She was an avid NFL fan and could quote statistics on many quarterbacks. A devoted mother, she enjoyed being with her family. As a life-long reader, she enjoyed books up until her final days.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in- law Scottie and Jimmy Ellerbrock, daughter Mary K. Allison, sister Martha Katona, nephews Jake Rogers and Art and Larry Allison, nieces Andrea Alexander and Paula Molberg and numerous treasured great-great great nieces and nephews.

Mary Lou's family would like to thank Dr. Michael Romain, Dr. Paul Moore and Linda Cook, Encompass Home Health Care, especially Beth, Maribel, Doris, Nicole, Cindi L. , Linda, Anita, Karen, Cynthia and all the Marys, whose devoted attention over these past 5 years enabled our mother to spend her last years at home.

A visitation will precede funeral services on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Funeral Services will follow at 10:00 a.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home on North Lamar. Graveside services follow at Austin Memorial Park.

The family suggests any memorial contributions be sent to the American Diabetes Association, Texas Retired Teachers' Association or the charity of your choice.
