Marie was born December 14, 1940 in Nanticoke, PA to small business owner Stella Locke Busch, and coal miner Carl J. Busch. She was the baby of the family, and remained close to her brother, John Busch of Conyngham, PA, and her sister, Dorother Janik of Virginia Beach, VA throughout her life. It broke her heart when they preceded her in death.
Marie was blessed with a loving 45-year marriage to Jimmy Glynn Martin. Theirs was a partnership of love, adventure, close companionship, hard work, and shared achievements. They traveled the world with Jimmy’s career in the Air Force, living in Italy, Spain, and Korea before retiring in Austin. They were inseparable to the end.
Marie was proud of the career she began as a secretary at the Pentagon during the Kennedy administration and continued as a Personnel Officer at Andrews Air Force Base where she met Jimmy Martin, who whisked her away to a life of adventure. She was inspired to continue working overseas whenever she had the opportunity, as a rep for a Danish furniture company in Spain, and as a buyer for the Chosun gift shop at Yongson Army Post in Korea, where she went on buying trips to China, Thailand and Hong Kong.
Always seeking new challenges, Marie decided to pursue her college degree while working at the Water Commission for the State of Texas, taking night classes at St. Edwards University, and graduating Summa Cum Laude with a BA in Business Administration.
Marie was an avid photographer, who also exceled at many other artistic endeavors and hobbies throughout her life.
Marie was a deeply compassionate person, who gave generously, whether it be of her time, to deeply listen or advise, or to share what she had with the needy. She volunteered on mission trips with her church. She was selflessly devoted to her daughters who adored her and will miss her deeply.
Her grandchildren were her heart, and she theirs. They loved her inexhaustibly and will carry Grandma in their hearts forever. Marie delighted in her many grandchildren and their every step along the way. “Every age is interesting,” she’d say. Marie laughed easily and enjoyed someone who could go along with a joke.
She was joined in death by her husband, Jimmy Glynn Martin on October 7th. She is survived by her children: Denise Daniels Fanning of Henderson, NV, Kelly Daniels of Austin, TX, Jacqueline Lane of Round Rock, TX, Jimmy Martin Jr. of Warner Robins, GA, and Donna Summers of Okmulgee, OK, grandchildren: Cooper, Jenny, Greyson, Lauren, Auburn, Jason, Jonathan, Christopher, John, Bryan.
The family will receive visitors from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday 16 October 2021 at the Weed- Corley-Fish Funeral Home at 3125 N. Lamar Blvd. in Austin, TX. Funeral will begin at 4:00 p.m. with a reception afterwards.
Marie will be laid to rest with her husband, Jimmy, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on 1 November 2021.
Loving and merciful God, we entrust our mother to your mercy.
