Margaret Noel Adams Grosenheider

Margaret Adams Grosenheider Margaret Noel Adams was born in Temple, Texas on December 8, 1938. She was the youngest daughter of Samuel Leon Adams and Laura Loggins Adams. She grew up in Temple and Gatesville where she graduated from high school in 1955. She entered Trinity University in the Fall of 1955. At Trinity, she was a member of the Alpha Chi honorary society and wrote a weekly column for the San Antonio Light. She graduated from Trinity in 1959 with a double major in journalism and psychology. Margaret married Delno J. Grosenheider on August 30, 1959 and settled in Austin. She attended graduate school at the University of Texas, worked at the UT Dean of Women’s office, and taught speed reading at UT. When her husband graduated from the UT Law School in 1964, she devoted her time and attention to homemaking, raising her family, studying music, learning the Russian language, practicing Ballet, volunteer work, and an abiding love for animals. Margaret volunteered for many organizations including the Austin Humane Society, The Heritage Society of Austin, the 1886 Restaurant, the Hill Country Middle School Library, and the Westlake High School Library. She taught Sunday School at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, worked in the church Summer School program, the church Flock Shop, and was a member of St. Anne’s Guild, an Episcopal charity. Margaret studied classical piano for many years under various instructors including Josephine Vokes and John Paul Lake. She spent many memorable hours at her beloved piano and could fill the Grosenheider home with beautiful music. She was diligent about tending to her pets and the neighborhood deer, which she fed daily. She also instilled her love of animals and nature in her children. Margaret and Del enjoyed travel and visited Europe on many occasions, including a memorable trip to the pre-Perestroika Soviet Union in 1984. They were also regular attendees at the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents and her only sister, Rosemary Powell. She is survived by her devoted husband of 45 years and two loving children, John S. Grosenheider and Michael D. Grosenheider. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Monday June 20, at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, Windsor Rd. and Exposition Ave. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Margaret’s name to the Austin Humane Society.
