Loretta Overman Voss

Our beloved Loretta Overman Voss, age 80, passed away peacefully in her home in Austin surrounded by family. Born in Christiansburg, Virginia to Russell and Hazel Loraine Overman, June 3, 1943, she later married John H. Voss, a pilot in the US Air Force. They celebrated 61 years together, living and traveling abroad as well as in the US while embodying what it is to be a military wife: loyal, fierce, reliable, loving.

She was very involved throughout her 45 years living in Austin serving her community, volunteering with and leading numerous charitable organizations. A member of The Settlement Club for more than 40 years, she continued to volunteer at its Annual Fund Raiser and was celebrated at the 2023 Settlement Home Garage Sale as an outstanding, long-time member. She followed in the footsteps of John’s grandmother, a founding member of the Austin Women’s Club, and served for many years and in various positions for the AWC. Even in her final days she was pivotal in making decisions for the Club.

For years she was involved with the Officers’ Wives Club as well as the Austin Retired Officers’ Wives Club and loved serving alongside these women who “just understood and supported each other,” as mentioned by a current OWC member. She was a member for many years of the Austin Symphony League where many close lifelong friendships were formed. Her beloved Balcones Country Club was a home for her, and John. She was a founding member of the Women’s Association at BCC, an advocate and heavily active in BCC Board activities, personifying the welcoming, personable, friendly, community-oriented approach BCC is known for.

Many other organizations were proud to have her serve as a valued and respected member – Loretta left her mark on Austin.

Loretta worked for many years in the fashion retail industry and later became a successful realtor. She loved her real estate career and demonstrated her ability to befriend everyone she came across as she worked to find a perfect place for her clients to call Home.

Loretta leaves a legacy of pure love, devotion and fortitude to her family and many dear friends, as a wonderful, loving mother, grandmother, and matriarch. She was encouraging, maintained a positive outlook always, and could be counted on to be uplifting with a smile on her face.

She was preceded in death by her parents Russell and Loraine Overman, her stepfather Bill Bayh, her in-laws Herman F. and Dorothy Voss, brother-in-law Herman Voss, Jr. and her dearest brother Steve Overman. She is survived by her husband, John, children Jay and wife Monica Voss, Debbie and husband Butch Grote, Laura and husband Troy Minyard, her grandchildren Hailey, Kayla, Will, Dylan, Dustin and Hannah and one great grandson Palmer – all who were the loves of her life as well as sisters-in-law Dottie Overman and Carolyn Voss, brother-in-law Terry Voss and many special nieces, nephews, and cousins.
