Leray Callahan Spence Leray Callahan Spence was received by the Heavenly Father on August 7, 2004 and joins her husband Jack Spence. Her husband passed away February 8, 1992. She was born August 20, 1911 to Laura and William Matthew Callahan of Bastrop County. Leray was the fourth oldest of nine children. She had five sisters and three brothers. She graduated from Bastrop High School in 1930. She attended college at CIA in Denton and Southwest Texas State University. She taught school first through eighth grades at High Grove, a country school, and at Cedar Creek School. She met her husband in 1940 and married in 1942. After WWII, they moved to Austin where she worked for 26 years as a secretary in a business owned by Mr. Rex Shields. She worked 13 years at Lamar Savings and retired in 1986. Leray is survived by her sister, Nelda Greer. She is also survived by nieces and nephews. Visitation hours will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 8th at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 9, 2004 at Memorial Hill Park Cemetery in Pflugerville.
