Laura Voss Cunningham Laura Voss Cunningham was born on May 2, 1921, and went to be with the Lord on August 14, 2004. Born in San Antonio, Texas Laura was one of four children born to John Jake Voss and Merle Murchison Voss. She was a strong woman with deep roots in her native soil of Texas, and beloved by her family. After graduating from Brackenridge High School in San Antonio in 1939, Laura went to work for Commercial Credit Corporation as a file clerk, advancing in two years to the manager of the accounting section. With the beginning of WW II, Laura began her 31 year career with the federal government serving at Ft. Sam Houston during the war, working with the Marshall Plan in China from 1948-49 and spending the majority of her career at Bergstrom AFB managing the property and housing needs of the military. When she retired in 1982, she was the Manager of Military Family Housing with a rating of GS-10. After her retirement, she became an artist, painting many canvases for the family and loved ones and served as the president of the Austin Palette Club. She enjoyed playing dominos and cards and was a tenacious bridge player. She loved history and became the family genealogist. Through her efforts and discoveries she secured her familys membership to the Daughters of the Texas Republic, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Old Texas Trail Drivers Association. She also served on the board of the Texas French Legation. Her travels took her to China, Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii, Italy, Germany, France and Scotland. She was preceded in death by her husband Les Cunningham, her mother and father, two brothers, John Jake Jr. and James, and her grandson Jamie. She is survived by four children and their spouses, Richard Templin and his wife Annie Laurie of Austin, Texas, Yvonne Cross and her husband Charles of Vienna, Georgia, Irene Holmes and her husband Randy Conradson of Enterprise, Alabama, Bedford Holmes and his wife Sara of Newberg, Oregon; her sister Ginger Bommer of San Antonio; her stepdaughter Carol Son of Austin; nine grandchildren, Will Templin, Lauren Templin, Leah Costello, Nicky Cranford, Jason Cranford, Adam Conradson, Josh Conradson, Abigail Holmes, Maggie Holmes and Bonnie Holmes; and four great-grandchildren, Clay Costello, Seth Cranford, Savannah Cranford, and Clara Blue Templin. The family will receive friends at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 17, 2004. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 18th at Cedar Creek Methodist Church, 130 Pearce Lane, Cedar Creek, Texas with Pastor Stan Whites officiating.
