She is preceded in death by parents Jerry Smith of Hedrick Iowa and Doris Hockensmith of Alexandria, Louisiana.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Martin Morales and her children Angela (Frank) Morales, Matthew and Christina. She is also survived by her step father, James Hockensmith, and sisters Karla (JP) Hockensmith-Christiansen, Kim Hockensmith, Kristie (Greg) Hockensmith-McGough, Belinda (Andrew) Smith-Cicarella, and Dawn (Roger) Singleton-Olson.
She graduated from Baylor University in 1975 with a Bachelors in Social Work. Later she achieved a Masters of Social Work from the University of Texas.
Because her step father was employed by Sears, Kathy had the opportunity to live in many locations throughout the Midwest and Texas. She met her husband at Baylor in her freshman year and they were married in 1975, her senior year. They then moved to Austin.
Kathy was actively involved in the ESL program at First United Methodist Church in Austin as a teacher and coordinator. She passionately taught the students from all over the globe for many years and made close friends with many of them. She will be sadly missed as a beloved teacher.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at First United Methodist Church of Austin at 2:00PM on Saturday, June 24, with a reception to follow. The service will also be livestreamed and available on the church's Youtube channel.
