Katherine was born in San Jose, California to progressive thinking parents. Her family moved to Dallas, Texas where she graduated from Ursuline Academy. She went on to earn her BA from the University of Texas; a master's degree from East Texas State University; and as a single mother, earned a second master's degree from Texas State University.
She delighted in her work, first as a teacher of visually impaired students, and then as a counselor. In her private practice she worked with individuals from all walks of life, and especially enjoyed working with families of children with special needs.
The highlight of her life was her children, Ross and Erin. She relished every moment of their lives. Katherine created a home which was like her heart: filled with love, laughter and warmth. It was a welcoming, steadfast place where no one was a stranger for long. To her, friends were the family you choose, and her closeness with Yoli and the Rangel Uribe family was nothing short of sisterhood. Katherine's generous, unequivocal soul built a harbor of constant love and support to which her children and friends will always turn.
She leaves behind her son and daughter and their families: Ross Owen Peavey, Emily Anne Peavey, OwenMatthew Peavey, Erin Peavey Hsieh, Michael Hsieh, her sister, Toni Owen, and numerous friends. Her family includes her life partner, Frank Tantillo, who brought her much joy, lovingly accompanied and supported her throughout an arduous cancer journey, Yolanda Uribe, and Judy Roberts.
The family gives special thanks to Dr. Kampe, whose dedication, research, humor, and positive outlook enabled Katherine to live a decade past all predictions.
Katherine radiated light and love in this world. She taught us to choose love and embrace life even in the face of hardship. Her laugher was contagious, her strength inspiring, and her faith in God's goodness was absolute.
Her big heart, unwavering eye and brilliant smile will live on in her children, grandchildren and the memories of all who knew her.
