Katherine Kay Miller Johnson Katherine "Kay" Miller Johnson passed away on October 7, 2007. Born in Austin on October 9, 1941, she fulfilled her lifelong dream to marry and raise a wonderful family. She loved to tell anyone that would listen that she had three Aggies in her family: her loving husband Tom Johnson who graduated in 1959; her son, Thomas Johnson, Jr. who graduated in 1992 and lives in Austin where their close relationship was maintained; and her daughter Karen Johnson Hard, who graduated in 1987 and lives in Austin where she also remained close to her mother. Kay loved what she called her West Texas Family and spent many happy days playing with her adopted grandchildren: Angelica, Demetrio, and Enrique. Kay was a dedicated tennis player and also enjoyed bridge, both activities produced long-term friendships. She served on a multitude of commissions and boards, yet also found time to perform volunteer work that benefited many charities. One of her favorite pastimes was hunting and then later cooking and dining on Blue Quail. She was both an excellent shot and a great cook. She knew no strangers and was as equally comfortable in Washington DC as she was in Valentine Texas. Few, if any, were immune to her charming wit, caring demeanor, and genuine, heartfelt care and concern for people. To meet her was to love her, and she never left you without you feeling as though you were very special. She always saw the good in everyone. She was a true Texas lady. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church located in Austin at 6800 Woodrow. A graveside burial will follow at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery located at 2800 Hancock Drive. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Kay Johnson Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 2185, Austin TX, 78768. The Kay Johnson Scholarship Fund provides assistance for deserving youths who require aid in continuing their education. Obituary and guestbook online at wcfish.com
