At the age of 18, Joyce met a young soldier at a U.S.O. dance and after a courtship, mainly through letters, she came to Texas on a bus, lived in a boarding house and worked in downtown Austin until she married Bob on Jan. 29, 1947.
After raising 2 children, she was employed as a Health Aide for Austin Independent School District. She worked at Lamar Junior High, receiving Employee of the Month in June 1987. She retired in 1989.
After retirement she enjoyed playing golf, serving as president of the ladies golf association at Austin's Lions Municipal Golf Course for several years, making many lifelong friends. She was affectionately referred to as Gammie by her granddaughters and great-grandsons, and many games of cards, dominoes or sitting on the front step guessing the color of the next car to come by were activities enjoyed at Gammie's house.
Preceding her in death include her parents, and her sisters Elaine Geiser Thormodsgaard and Merilou Geiser Sanders.
Her survivors include her daughter, Barbara Prellop and husband Ronnie of Georgetown; son Gary Bond and wife Jan of Cross Plains; brother Warren Geiser of Oxnard, CA; sister Judy Drozd of Bishop, CA; four granddaughters, Melissa Garcia, Michelle Clark, Megan Prellop and Rhonda Bond; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services (burial of ashes) will be held at Austin Memorial Park at 1:00p.m., Friday, October 30, 2015.
