Joe died peacefully in Austin, Friday, April 20, 2012 after fighting a short battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 4, 1940 in Memphis, TN to Martha and Edward Goodson. He moved to Fort Worth in 1949. Joe and Virginia, his wife of 37 years, moved to Austin in 2005.
A successful entrepreneur and businessman, Joe’s career ranged from making oil pipelines to building furniture; from commercial real estate to owning an automobile parts & repairs business; from owning an airplane electronics manufacturing business to trading stocks and options.
Joe loved people and people loved him. He was a man of character, with sarcastic humor and a ready quick wit. He loved to tease his friends and family. Joe enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, watching football, traveling, going to water aerobics, playing the stock market, grazing Costco food samples and hanging out at Starbucks and Barnes & Noble with Virginia.
Joe is survived by his wife Virginia; sister Betty Bond; children Jerri Kinney, Melissa Johnson, Robin Riccelli and Leslie Dominguez; grandchildren Joey, Christopher (CJ), Josh, Christina, Madi , Alex and Katie.
“A Tribute to Joe” will be held Saturday, April 28, 2012 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Querencia at Barton Creek, 2500 Barton Creek Blvd. in Austin. Keeping in mind Joe’s casual and fun personality, the family encourages casual attire.
