Jose Eduardo Castillo

Born March 29, 1951, in Camaguay, Cuba, he grew up mostly in Florida, graduating from the University of Florida in electrical engineering. He later moved to Austin and worked as an engineer for Motorola and Freescale until retirement 25 years later.

It is impossible to sum up the love, loyalty, and devotion of Jose in just a few words. He was an inspiration to everyone; always kind, always genuine, always happy to see you. Family was most important to him; some said it was his hobby. His greatest joy was to spend time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He often drove to Florida to see his grandchildren and regularly planned his schedule around lunches and dinners with his grandkids. He was more than a great man; he was a man unafraid to love, to care, to demonstrate, to debate, to teach and to learn. He will be missed by everyone who met him, and our lives are better and forever changed for having known him.

Jose was preceded in death by his mother, Gloria Pelaez, his father, Jose Del Rosario Castillo, and his sister Cruz Elena Castillo.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Cecilia Castillo, and his children, Deseray Buentello, Michael Castillo and his wife, Monica, David Castillo and his wife Nicole, and Isaac Buentello. He was a proud, loving grandfather to Abigail Buentello, Eli Castillo, Anna Castillo, Aiden Buentello, Eva Castillo, and a grandson scheduled to arrive on Valentine’s Day.

Jose is also survived by his siblings Jose Del Rosario, Vera Del Castillo, Lilliam Castillo, Jose Alejandro Castillo, Jose Enrique Castillo, Jose Jorge Castillo, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by and was a friend and caring son-in-law to Leonor Soto.

Please join Jose’s family for the viewing and rosary on November 24 from 6-8 p.m. at the Cook Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N Lamar Boulevard, Austin, TX 78752 and a funeral mass to be held on November 25 at 10 a.m. at St. Louis King of France Catholic Church, 7601 Burnet Road Austin, TX 78757.
