Johnnie graduated from Johnston High School in 1966 where he played baseball, as well as in local recreational leagues. He joined the Navy, soon after, where he was assigned to the USS Tom Green County vessel, also known as the “Ghost Ship of Da Nang” and proudly served his country in the Vietnam war. He was employed by Austin Energy with the City of Austin and retired after 27 years of service.
Following his naval service, he met the love of his life, Linda Briseño. They were married on February 12, 1971 and were blessed with 51 years of marriage.
Johnnie is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Nicolas, Joe L. and Elias III and his sister, Alicia Montana.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda; daughters Melissa Gallardo-Haros (Carlos Jr.) and Denise Gallardo; son Omar Azmitia-Gallardo; grandchildren Leticia Gallardo (Delbert Hoy), John Carlos Haros (Emma Allen), Chloe Rivera; great-grandchildren Vida Linda Velazquez, Vincent and Valentine Hoy; sisters Mary (Guera) Gonzales, Katy (Juan) Sanchez, Frances Loera, Lupita (Dan) Govea, Virginia Jenkins and Rosalie Jackson; and a host of nieces and nephews.
