It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our amazing and beloved husband, son, brother and friend, Jack Turner. Jack passed away June 22, 2021, at the age of 26, following a three-year courageous and hard-fought battle with Ewing’s Sarcoma.
A celebration of Jack’s life will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 North Lamar Blvd, Austin, Texas at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 28, 2021, immediately followed by a reception for family and friends at Pease Park Conservancy, Kingsbury Commons, 1100 Kingsbury Street, Austin, Texas. Casual and comfortable attire is encouraged, as the reception will be outside if weather permits, and burnt orange or UT apparel is definitely appropriate!
Jack is survived by wife, Madison Wright Turner, his “rock” who fought this battle alongside him all the way and to whom he was married July 7, 2020, and sweet puppy Ollie. He will also be lovingly remembered by his parents, John and Nancy Turner of Austin and Amarillo, big sister, Sarah Turner of Dallas, and little brother, Charlie Turner of Oklahoma City. Jack was well-loved and well-liked by many. He will be dearly missed by his parents-in-law, Steve and Kerin Wright of Amarillo, the entire Wright family, many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and many close friends.
Jack was born January 19, 1995, in Amarillo, Texas. He attended St. Paul Preschool, Woodlands Elementary, De Zavala Middle School and Tascosa High School, all in Amarillo, before heading off to THE University of Texas in Austin. You might say Jack was a sports fan. He loved to play sports – anything people would let him – and talk – and talk – about sports. Growing up, he played YMCA baseball and basketball, Little Rebels football, middle school football and basketball and high school basketball, baseball and football. Jack was also an excellent academic and was co-editor of his high school newspaper. Before sports took over in middle school, he dabbled in children’s theatre and the Amarillo Youth Choir. He had a beautiful voice! Some of Jack’s friends from grade school were still his best friends to the end. He also met his love, Madison, while in high school.
While attending the University of Texas, Jack was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and made dedicated new friends and brothers, he attended every football game he could, many social events and tailgates - and some classes, too! He was very proud to achieve Iron Phi status. He graduated from UT with a degree in Communications – Advertising – in 2017. Following graduation, Jack worked in SEO. In 2018, shortly prior to his diagnosis, he rejoined The Search Engine Guys as SEO Manager, where he had interned during school. He was a valuable and admired member of their team and his company stood by him through thick and thin, for which he was extremely grateful. His profile reads that he enjoys eating great Tex-Mex, going on walks and hikes with his family, golfing and rooting on the Texas Longhorns, Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs. All very true!
Jack was baptized and raised in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Amarillo, continuing to attend at St. Austin during college. He was a child of God and, though not willingly all the time, an example of faith, strength, endurance and fighting spirit.
Jack has given thanks in the past months to the many, many supporters – spiritual and physical – who “made sure cancer was the only thing I have to worry about.” His family will be eternally grateful to all of you as well. We also thank his medical teams at Texas Oncology and MD Anderson and hope and pray that they will indeed find a cure to beat back this horrid disease. Jack encouraged us to give to charities that support cancer patients and their basic needs, over and above medical care costs, and a favorite was Ronald McDonald House Charities. So, in lieu of flowers, we encourage you to give to this or similar charities.
