John Owen Scott, 62, of Austin and formerly of Victoria, died on June 1, 2011 in Austin, Texas after a long illness. He was born on September 5, 1948, in San Antonio, Texas to Benjamin Herndon Johnson Scott and Mildred Dixon Scott. He grew up in Victoria, Texas, and graduated from Victoria High School in 1966. He then attended the University of Texas-Austin and earned a B.A. in Economics and Government in 1970 and his law degree from the University of Texas-Austin in 1973. He was also a Certified Public Accountant for Arthur Anderson. During that time, he served in the U. S. Army Reserves and was honorably discharged in 1978. In recent years, he had worked as a Tax Attorney in Austin.
During his life, he had many passionate interests, including traveling, gardening, baseball, bird hunting, and architecture. He was a voracious reader, with a keen interest in Texas history, philosophy, geography, and sociology.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his daughter, Sarah Megan Scott Sicotte of Littleton, Colorado; his friends, Suzanne Warren of Austin, Texas; Stephen Clifton of Austin.
A memorial celebration of his life and wake will be held at four o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday, the 5th of June 2011, at Fado` Irish Pub, 214 West Fourth Street, Austin, Texas.
In lieu of flowers and the usual remembrances, the family requests memorials be made to your local SPCA or No Kill Shelter or to Pawmatch, 14108 FM 812, Del Valle, Texas 78617.
