Joan Simmons Lacy, 73, passed into her next life on Thursday morning September 30, 2004. She was born March 12, 1931 in San Antonio, where she graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. Joan entered The University of Texas where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega. In 1951 she married newly commissioned Air Force 2nd Lt. Bill Lacy. They were married 53 years. Joan loved her family and friends, and it was uniquely expressed through her expertise as a gourmet cook. Joan had an extensive collection of over 2000 recipes. Friends and family always looked forward to a dinner invitation at Joans table. Joans had a love for life and spent time playing Mah Jongg and having lunch with the Drinking Mothers Club. Joan was very active in the community and enjoyed serving others through organizations such as, Meals on Wheels, Junior Helping Hand, and Settlement Home. Joans faith in God was expressed in her long membership at Saint Theresa Catholic Church. Joan had a special love for their second home in Rockport Texas, where she enjoyed boating, fishing, and other treasured memories. Bill always referred to Joan as a Perfect Lady. Joan struggled with Crohns disease for 35 years. Throughout her ordeal, Bill said she never complained. Joan is survived by husband Bill Lacy, daughter Leah Lacy, son Jim Lacy, and grandchildren Jacob and Bethany. Visitation will be at Weed Corley Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar, from 5 to 7PM on Sunday, Oct. 3. Memorial services will be held at St. Theresas Catholic Church, 4311 Small Dr. at 10AM Monday, Oct. 4, Monsignor Jordan officiating. A reception follows at the church.
