Jo Ella Elder Myers, 101, passed away Monday, October 5, 2015. She was born September 19, 1914 in Pilot Point, Texas, to James Dee and Bertha Mae Elder. While she was attending North Texas University, she met and married Robert Gilbert Myers. She worked as a cashier/secretary for the Community Natural Gas Company in Pilot Point, substituted in Joinerville Consolidated School District, was secretary/receptionist for Texas Life Insurance Company in Tyler and Austin, TX, was secretary to the Dean of Education at McNeese State University, was secretary to Rep. Jack Hawkins in the 62nd State Legislature, and then secretary to Rep. Forrest Green during the 63rd Session before retiring in 1976.
Jo Ella was a member of Crestview and Bethany United Methodist Churches in Austin. She was an active member of Crestview Thursday Fellowship. She and her husband were avid square dancers for 25 years with the Promenaders in Austin. She also enjoyed playing the piano at church and for funerals.
Jo Ella is survived by one daughter, JoAnn Brown; four grandchildren, Barbara Belden and husband David, Kathy Bailey and husband Keith, Michelle Henley and husband Allen, Robert D. Parker and wife Brittany; also seven great–grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. She was predeceased by her husband, Gilbert, her daughter Floela Parker Maxwell, her parents and three brothers.

Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. on Friday October 9, 2015 at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home on Anderson Mill Road, Austin, Texas. A graveside service will be held at Memorial Hill Park in Pflugerville Friday, October 9, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. David Minnich, presiding.
