Janie G. Sanchez

Janie was born on December 27, 1928, in Austin, Texas to Maria de Jesus Gutierrez and Encarnacion Gutierrez. She is proceeded in death by her parents, husband David Sanchez, sister Lupe Sifuentes, daughter Mary Grace Anderson, son Richard Paul Sanchez, granddaughter Kathy Nathanson, and great-granddaughter Jade Erwin.

Janie is survived by 6 children, son David Jr Sanchez and his spouse Carole, son Jesse Sanchez and his spouse Cheryl, daughter Betty Jo Castellow and her spouse Alan, son Danny Sanchez and his spouse Cheryl, son John Sanchez and his spouse Dana, son Marty Sanchez and his spouse Tammy, 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, 3 sisters-in-laws Mary Esther Lizotte, Alice Sanchez, Lucille Saiz, and spouse Manuel, 1 brother-in-law Joel Olivarez, as well as an abundance of extended family members.

Janie met the love of her life at a cleaner’s where they both worked. She married David Sanchez on June 5, 1947. She had various jobs as a cook, working in the cafeterias for Murchison Jr. High School, UT, and Luby’s.

Janie was an active member of her church and was also a member of the Auxiliary at the Catholic War of Veterans, where she held the position of welfare officer.

Janie loved traveling, going to Las Vegas, bus trips to Coushatta, Playing Bunco, Bingo and she loved dancing. She enjoyed shopping and having coffee at Jim’s Restaurant. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and devoted wife.

She modeled a life well lived and will forever remain in our hearts and memories. Janie loved the Lord and because of this, we are confident that she is walking heaven’s streets of gold, more alive today than she ever has been.

A visitation for Janie will be held Sunday, February 6, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas 78752. A rosary service will occur Sunday, February 6, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 5:30 PM, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas 78752. A funeral service will occur Monday, February 7, 2022 at 11:00 AM, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas 78752. A reception will occur Monday, February 7, 2022 from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas 78752. A graveside service will occur Monday, February 7, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Cook-Walden/ Capital Parks Cemetery, 14501 North IH-35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660.

Serving as pallbearers are Daniel Ray Sanchez, Jr., Robert Mitchell Sanchez, David M. Galvan, Mitchell C. Sanchez, Myles G. Sanchez and Joe Nicholas Sifuentes.
