Janice McBride Frizzell

Janice McBride Frizzell, a lifelong resident of Austin, Texas, was called home to our Lord and Savior on September 26, 2024 surrounded by family. She was born on August 12, 1949 in Austin to John Llewellyn and Mildred Hoyt McBride. The fifth of ten children, Janice was long-known to thrive in any situation where she could take care of others.

After her graduation from St. Mary's Academy in 1967, she quickly began working for her family's iconic Austin-based business, McBride’s Hunting and Sporting Goods. It was at McBride's that she met her husband of 54 years, John Randall Frizzell. After their marriage, they relocated to Houston, Texas, where their daughter, Carrie Frizzell Puckett, and son Christopher Randall Frizzell, were born in 1972 and 1976. After moving between Houston, San Antonio, and Kerrville, Texas, Janice and Randall settled back in Austin in 1987, where she returned to work at McBride’s. She worked tirelessly until her retirement at the beginning of 2024. Janice took great pride in her family, and had an unmatched passion for taking care of them, even if it meant sacrifice on her part. When she was not working, she spent her days loving on her children and grandchildren, usually with a Dr. Pepper in hand. Janice always put others before herself and was truly the greatest wife, mother, sister, and MiMi anyone could ask for. Her silent strength, perseverance, and drive was immeasurable as she fought MDS for 15 years, unbeknownst to many. Janice left a mark on this world that not many can boast. There are not enough words to state how loved she was: everyone who had the pleasure of meeting her knew the air of true joy (not to mention mischievous sense of humor) that followed her everywhere she went.

She will be greatly missed by her family and community alike. Janice is preceded in death by her father, John Llewellyn McBride, mother, Mildred Hoyt McBride, brothers Jeffrey, Johnny, and James McBride, and sisters Jacqui McBride, Judy McBride Woodward, and Joyce McBride.

She is survived by her husband, John Randall Frizzell, daughter, Carrie Frizzell Puckett and her husband Bryan, son, Christopher Randall Frizzell and his wife Bethany, grandchildren, Allie and Brady Puckett, Harrison and Avery Frizzell, and Emerson Mossman. Sister, Joan McBride Hamilton, brothers Joe McBride and wife Paula and Jay McBride and wife Rhonda, as well as countless loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorial service will be held October 6, 2024 at 1 pm at Cook-Walden Funeral Home.
