James D. Smith passed away after a long illness. Born November 4th,1929 in Houston, Texas, and passed away in Austin, Texas on November 17th 2024. He graduated from, Cedar-Bayou on High School in 1948, and attended Lee Juniper College until he was drafted into the Army during the Korean War. In 1953, he was hired on to Humble Oil which became EXXON and then retired as the Operations Supervisor in 1985, and then spent his time golfing and traveling the world.
He is preceded by his mother Annie Ruth Hudgens, father Donald Leslie Smith, stepfather Laurence Clay Barrow, brother Harvard Joseph Smith, brother in law Ray Waters & Kenneth Waters. In addition, his sister in law Carol Waters, and cousins Olend Hudgens, Dan Hudgens, Tom Hudgens, and Greg Hudgens.
He is survived by his son, Donald Smith, daughter in law Ying Hong, grand-daughter Catherine Henderson, son in law Michael Henderson, his wife, Hiroko Henderson, brother Robert Barrow, sister in law Sally Barrow, Nieces Laurie Barrow, Vivian Schroeder, Ruth Barrow, Brenda Pena, Tina Waters, Nephew Brad Waters, and cousins; Virgil Hudgens, C.G. Hudgens, Roy Cecil Hudgens, and many others.
A visitation for James will be held Monday, November 25, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 6300 West William Cannon Drive, Austin, Texas 78749. A funeral service will occur Monday, November 25, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 6300 West William Cannon Drive, Austin, Texas 78749. A graveside service will occur Monday, November 25, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, 6300 West William Cannon Drive, Austin, Texas 78749.
