James ("Jimmy") Willard Parker was the second child born to Raymond James and Helen Jane Parker on January 20, 1949 in Dubuque, Iowa. His father was in the Navy and the family frequently traveled during his formative years, living in Tennessee, Virginia, Indiana, Hawaii, Kwajalein, and Midway Island. His father retired in Imperial Beach, California when Jimmy was a sophomore and he graduated from Mar Vista High School. Jimmy loved the beach and surfing, spending countless hours there.
In 1985 Jimmy moved to Texas to be close to family. He began working for the Texas Department of Transportation and retired after 27 years of service. Jimmy met his wife, Michele, married in 2007 and celebrated 8 years of marriage. Jimmy was an avid bicyclist and loved riding around town on his cruiser with family and friends alike, especially his son, James. He also liked gardening with his wife and mother-in-law (Maureen), building or repairing any number of things in his work area, and caring for his pets. Jimmy loved sports and his all-time favorite team was the San Diego Chargers; he also enjoyed Nascar racing and cheered for the Texas Longhorns.
Jimmy was a lover of life. He treasured the things that matter most in this life: family, friends, and living each day to the fullest. His wife, Michele, he adored; his son, James, was his pride; his grandchildren, his true joy. Jimmy was the type of person that would help anyone he could if in his power. He loved his family and spent much of his time supporting his children and grandchildren in their endeavors.
Jimmy's final days here were spent surrounded by the love and support of his family and friends. He passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 in Austin, Texas at the age of 67, encircled by his loving wife, son, sister, and many other family members.
Jimmy is survived by: his wife, Michele Parker; son, James Ray Parker, also father to Mandi Miller and Matthew Miller (wife, Dallis); sister, Diann Harper (husband, Joe); mother-in-law, Maureen Gerke; grandchildren, Margaret and James John ("JJ") Parker; Kierra, Kaila, and Hulischer ("Trey") Haywood; Emerson, Piper, and Scottie Miller. Jimmy is also survived by several brother- and sister-in-laws, cousins, nieces, and great-nieces and nephews.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond James and Helen Jane Parker, as well as his younger brother, Jeffrey Lance Parker.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 1st at Smith Chapel at Riverbend Church, 4214 N. Capital of Texas Highway, Austin.
