James served in the Army National Guard as a MP in Washington DC from 1948 until 1952. He returned to Texas where he attended the University of Texas earning his degree in accounting. He continued his education at Texas State earning his Masters Degree in Accounting. He worked as a Revenue Agent for the Internal Revenue Service. He worked as a CPA in Sweetwater and Breckenridge, Texas then moved back to Austin where he worked as an Agent for the State Comptrollers as one of the famous Bullock Raiders. Continuing his career with the State of Texas he worked as an auditor for the Attorney Generals Office.
James had a passion for football and rarely missed a Texas Longhorn game. He also loved mountain climbing, traveling, karate, tai chi, education, books and missionary work and visits with the Mormon Church.
James is survived by his daughter Cindy and her husband Don, stepchildren, Cathy and her husband Bruce, Jan and her husband Greg, David and his wife Terri, and Carol Ann. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn and son Mark.
A viewing will take place December 10, 2020 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N Lamar Blvd. Austin, Texas 78705 from 1:00 until 3:00pm
Graveside service will be held December 11, 2020 at Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Dr. Austin, Texas, at 11:00am.
