Jack H. Taylor

Jack H. Taylor passed away in Austin on Friday, May 12 after a brief illness. Even in the end he was strong and kind; extending a hand for a firm handshake and giving well wishes to all who happened by.

Jack was born December 17, 1929 in Breckenridge, Texas to Hattie Pearl Knight Taylor and Neil Elbert Taylor. Jack was predeceased by his two older sisters, Panzee Taylor Guyton and Maxine Taylor Fambro and his younger brother, Kenneth Knight Taylor. In Breckenridge he worked for his father’s trucking company. Jack left Breckenrige in 1954 for West Texas and Howard County to open his own trucking and oil services business.

Jack met the love of his life, Geanne Dunivan in the early months of 1953 and they married shortly thereafter on May 15, 1953. Monday, May 15th, 2023 would have been their 70th Wedding Anniversary. Jack and Geanne made their home in Coahoma, Texas where the trucking company kept them busy until it was sold in 1973. Jack “retired” from the trucking business in 1973 but not from work. Jack and Geanne moved to his grandparent’s former home near Richland Springs, Texas and set about to remodel not only the home, but their lives as well. In “retirement” Jack enjoyed farming, raising cattle and other livestock, gardening, volunteering with the San Saba County EMS and serving in the local Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife Geanne and their two daughters: Lisa Taylor Athnos and husband Jonathan and Leslie Taylor Cameron and husband James; their five grandchildren: Susan Cameron Devitt and husband Tom; Aimee C. Athnos; Abby Cameron Meade and husband Matthew; Meghan Athnos Hanson and husband Karl; and James C. Cameron and wife Catherine; and their six great-grandchildren: Hattie, Robert and William Devitt; Graham and Cameron Meade; and Laurel Mae Cameron.

Jack served his country during the Korean War as a Sergeant in the Army. He was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church. He will be sorely missed by his family and so many dear friends.

Jack and Geanne moved to Westminster in Austin in the Fall of 2013 to be near their daughter and their doctors. Jack was Papa to his grandchildren and all have fond memories of playing at the farm. The great-grandchildren remember the joy of getting ice cream sundaes at Westminster.

A Memorial Service will be held at Westminster in the Chapel on Sunday, May 21 at 2:30pm. Reception following. Private Burial Service will be held at the Richland Springs Cemetery.
