Helen B. Ten Eyck

Helen married Richard Ten Eyck in 1941. She worked in banking and later for Xerox in Rochester, NY. Helen moved from Rochester, NY to Austin in 1975.

Helen lived a long life with unusual gratitude, energy, vitality and health; some of which she attributed to her habit of drinking Aloe Vera juice. Helen was humble and compassionate; a true people person. While her closest relationships were with her daughters Gayla and Tracey (whom she spoke with most every day), she also leaves behind many treasured friends. One of Helen’s greatest joys in life was when her friends came to visit.

Helen was passionate about knitting and working with her hands. She also enjoyed word games, reading, and listening to the radio. While Helen valued simplicity and practicality, she also had a creative flair that manifested itself in her hobbies, her home décor and her fashion.

After moving to Austin in 1975, Helen was the secretary of Northwest Hills United Methodist Church for a decade. She also enjoyed serving as an election clerk for many years. Helen was great at showing up!

After retirement, Helen was an engaged volunteer for many years at Seton Northwest Hospital. Helen was a devoted knitter of caps and slippers for cancer patients all her years in Austin. She was generous with the items she knit, often gifting them to visitors and friends and family of friends.

The last two decades she was an active member of Covenant United Methodist Church. A life-long Methodist, Helen’s faith continued to grow until her last breath. She was certain God watched over her. The last several years she was an active member of Covenant United Methodist Church.

A Memorial Service will be conducted at four o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 13th of December 2011, at Covenant United Methodist Church, 4410 Duval Road, Austin, Texas with Pastor Valerie Sansing officiating.

In lieu of flowers and the customary remembrances, memorials may be sent in Helen’s memory to Covenant United Methodist Church, 4410 Duval Road, Austin, 78727.
